We have a very enhanced police presence, we have high visibiliy officers and undercover arm. Sgt Justin Rai

POLICE arrested a man with 51 wraps of crack cocaine hidden up his backside during a police operation in part of Nuneaton.

Operation Anglesey, launched just before Christmas, covers all of the town with a particular focus on the Meadow Court area. So far police have seized knives, caught robbery suspects and stopped drugs reaching the streets of the town.

As well as arresting the man who was in possession of the crack, police also found another man in possession of £4,500 of the illegal recreational drug MDMA. He was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Sgt Justin Rai, who has been heading up the operation, said it has brought together a wide range of partners, such as the council, for one common cause – to stop crime.

“The operation is a reaction to concerns raised to us by the community as well as our own observations,” he said. “We have a very enhanced police presence, we have high visibility officers and an undercover investigative arm as well as being supported by special constables.” Under the umbrella of Operation Anglesey, a suspected crack den has been in closed in Jodrell Court. Three people have been charged with supply of Class A and Class B drugs and one person charged with allowing his premises to be used to supply Class A and Class B drugs. They were snared by the offender management unit priority team. Anyone who has any information they would like to pass on to the Operation Anglesey team should contact 101 or pass on the details via the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
