STATELY homes and quaint tearooms are what the National Trust is known and treasured for. But it’s about so much more these days – for instance, have you ever considered your nearest Trust property as a gym?

NT is encouraging families and fit folk to consider the grounds of its spectacular properties as places where you can get in shape.

“Exercising outside is priceless,” says a spokesperson for the National Trust, “even at this time of the year when many of us just want to stay inside and hibernate.

“Just five minutes in the ‘outdoor gym’ every day can lead to an immediate improvement in mood and self-esteem, as well as physical fitness.”

The Trust has shared a guide, created by specialists to get everyone exercising outside, whatever the weather, and a complete 31-day plan put together by outdoor exercise specialists, Eco Fitness.

The guide offers help with getting everyone warmed up before they start exercising and there are even ideas for more fun things to do to get fitter and keep active, even if it snows!

Walking in the snow is more challenging to your core, and snowballing is great fun for all ages and a great upper body workout too.

And why not dust off the sledge if the snow falls, walking up and sledging down hills is the perfect way to burn calories. and it’s fun for everyone”
