Lucky escape after crash

TWO people had a lucky escape after their car crashed into a tree in Atherstone.

The passenger in the car had to be cut free by firefighte­rs and the driver was injured in the crash.

Emergency services rushed to Bentley Common in Atherstone after reports that a car had hit a tree and was blocking the road.

A spokespers­on for Warwickshi­re Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just after midnight on February 14, crews from Polesworth and Atherstone were called to a road traf- fic collision at Bentley Common near Atherstone.

“On arrival crews found one person receiving treatment from the Ambulance Service and another medically trapped inside a vehicle.

“Fire crews used the latest cutting equipment to free the casualty before handing them over to our ambulance colleagues.

“This incident just highlights the benefit of all of the hours of training and teamwork in operation to protect drivers on the roads of Warwickshi­re.”

Firefighte­rs from Polesworth and Atherstone spent more than an hour rescuing the pair.

A spokespers­on for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to Bentley Common at 11.51pm on Monday, February 13, following reports of a car being in collision with a tree.

“Upon arrival, the crew found two patients requiring medical attention. The driver was out and walking but was complainin­g of chest and hand injuries.

“The passenger, who was in their twenties, was medically trapped in the car and was complainin­g of lower back pain and was extricated. Both patients were taken to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshi­re.”
