Please think again about bin collection changes

- G Moore Wyken, Coventry

I READ with dismay this morning’s Telegraph 22.02.17 Dave Nellist’s letter about the council forcing through the fortnightly bin collection policy. My mother is 96 this year is disabled and due to her condition produces a lot of waste. Obviously this leads to our bin being full by the end of each week as we also have the normal amount of normal household rubbish. Are the council prepared to offer a second green bin to cope with the amount of waste we have as they said they would do for larger families? I feel that the council have failed to properly assess the consequences of their decision, I read recently that they managed to find the 750K for their new council meeting room, do these people live in the real world or cloud cuckoo land? Why are we paying council tax to fund student accommodation at the expense of less services on top of council tax increases, surely the universities should be paying for their students as they are the ones making a profit from it. I have voted Labour all my life but to be honest I am seriously considering voting Conservative at the next local elections because the state of our filthy city is a disgrace, our wishes are just ignored by our council leaders and members. It’s time they woke up because if they want to have any chance of winning the general election in 2020 they will have to start listening. I can foresee people in Coventry dumping their excess rubbish in protest at these ill thought out cuts to our collections and I’m sure many people will agree with me, I certainly know my extended family and neighbours do.

I would suggest the council rethink their decision on this issue asap. If not we’ll all soon be up to our knees in rats.
