Your Life Making more wishes like Leanne’s come true

-

KACIE Walker wants to help make wishes come true in memory of her friend Leanne Goodlad.

Leanne passed away two years ago aged just 16. The Coundon teenager had battled cancer for four years.

The pair, who both attended King Henry VIII School in Coventry, were close. It is because of Leanne, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, that Kacie wants to raise money for the Make-AWish Foundation.

“She had a wish granted by this amazing charity and was always fond of this charity, along with many others that supported her throughout,” says Kacie, 25.

“Leanne was always a fun and lively character. She remained so upbeat throughout her battle with cancer and was such a strong, determined young lady.

“She was a joy to be around and we made so many memories together. I’m honoured to have them to look back on.”

The Make-A-Wish Foundation helped send Leanne on a holiday to Harry Potter World in Florida in 2013.

Now Kacie, who plays for Camp Hill Women’s RFC in Shirley, is swapping her rugby boots for running shoes as she takes on the Bath Half and London Marathons in Leanne’s memory.

“My aim is to raise £2,250 for Make-A-Wish,” she said. “I think the work they do is amazing and I just want to raise money for more wishes like Leanne’s to come true.

“Leanne wanted to be remembered and she had raised money herself for Make-A-Wish alongside other charities too, so I wanted to continue her hard work.”

During their time in Westminster, students were able to meet and question Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey.

The Key Stage 3 pupils were given a guided tour of The Palace of Westminster and were able to watch part of a debate, about the triggering of Article 50, from the public gallery in the House of Commons.

Dan Phelan, Achievement Leader, said, “Having the opportunity to watch a live debate was a wonderful opportunity which really interested the students and captured their imagination.

“They also asked Mark Pawsey some interesting questions – including his thoughts on a potential Donald Trump visit.”
