Hats on for charity

FOR WEAR A HAT DAY GET ALL THE FAMILY INVOLVED TO FUND THE FIGHT AGAINST BRAIN TUMOURS

-

IT can be hard to come with new ways to keep the family entertained week in and week out – so what about doing something that helps you and, crucially, helps others too?

Raising money for charity can be fun as well as rewarding and, to give you the heads-up, there’s a perfect day coming up which can help keep the kids busy and put coins into the coffers for research into a killer disease.

Organisers are gearing up to make Friday, March 31, the biggest and boldest Wear A Hat Day EVER – so get involved and raise money to help ‘fund the fight’ against brain tumours.

You can register to take part at www.braintumourresearch.org/ registration-form-hat or just hold your own family event and donate whatever cash you can.

A number of celebrities will be wearing a hat for the day to support Brain Tumour Research including actress and Loose Women presenter Linda Robson. She says: “My cousin had been diagnosed w with a brain tumour and I’ I’m amazed by the lack of fu funding so I’m doing what I can to help raise awareness and increase support.”

H HERE ARE WEAR A HAT DAY’S TEN TOP TIPS

1Coffee morning, ladies lunch or afternoon tea: Ask everyone to wear their favourite hat – or tea cosy! – and make a donation for vital research. 2Hat Hoopla: Persuade friends and family to donate some

tempting prizes, lay them out in a line, then test your aim; win the prize your hat lands on. 3Big Hatty Bake Off: Whether you hold a hat-shaped baking competition or host a delicious bake-sale, sweet treats never fail to get the taste buds going and the donations flowing. 4Pass

the Hat: Equip yourself with a tall top hat or the like, and get everyone at work, in your street, or your family to fill it to the brim with coins or stuff it full of notes. 5Hat Quiz: Test your knowledge with WAHD’s great selection of quizzes available to download from their Hatters Workshop. 6# Hatselfies Photobooth: Get one of the #hattastic photobooth kits and get posing! Invite everyone to join in and post your

best #hatselfies on the WAHD Instagram gallery. Don’t forget to text donate at the same time – send HAT to 70660 to donate £5.

7Hat Walkabout: Get out into the great outdoors; set a route and ask your family and friends to join you in their favourite head-gear (the sillier the better!). “Every step brings us closer to a cure,” say organisers – and you can ask anyone who wonders what you are doing for a donation. 8Design Your Own: Design and make your own #hattastic creations – think toilet rolls, pipe cleaners and lots of glitter. You could even suggest it to your school or youth group and stage a hat-walk fashion show, an Easter-bonnet event. 9Famous

Hats Film Night: Willy Wonka, Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes… just a few of the film characters who wear an iconic hat. Ask your friends round for a night of film watching and hat-wearing and ask for donations in lieu of a cinema ticket. 10Secret

Hat: Make a surprise hat for a nominated member of the family (pupil or colleague if you do it in school or work) and place bets on whose will be the most fashionable, imaginative, fun etc. and donate some or all of the proceeds to the cause.
