Masked robbers in hammer attack
MASKED robbers hit a man in his 50s over the head with a hammer and forced their way in to his home in Nuneaton.
The attackers were wearing balaclavas as they entered the house in Tryan Road at about 5.15pm on Tuesday and were challenged by one of the occupants. One of the robbers then hit the man with a hammer before escaping with a jar of cash and a mobile phone.
The homeowner was not injured, while a second person in the house, a woman in her 50s, was upstairs at the time and was not involved in the incident. The two offenders are described as white men in their 20s.
Warwickshire Police say they are treating the incident as an aggravated burglary. A spokesman said: “Two men, who were both wearing balaclavas, entered the property where they were challenged by one of the occupants. An altercation followed and one of the offenders struck the occupant, a man in his 50s, with what is believed to have been a hammer. A second occupant, a woman in her 50s, was upstairs at the time and was not involved. The two offenders then made off with a jar of cash and a mobile phone. “Officers investigating the incident would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in Tryan Road yesterday afternoon or has any information which would help with inquiries.” Anyone with information can call 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident 310 of March 21.
