Dead foal dumped in bag by side of the road

A DEAD foal was found dumped in a bag by the side of the road near Nuneaton.

Daniela Randino discovered the young horse wrapped up in tarpaulin tied up with string.

The animal was found on the verge at the edge of Top Road, Bulkington, on Wednesday.

The corpse was there for at least two nights but has now been removed.

Daniela rehomes horses and is a small scale horse breeder herself.

She was disgusted to find the foal had been dumped as if it was rubbish.

She said: “It’s just devastating, I know it happens but I didn’t think I would ever come across anything like that literally on my door step.

“I have often had horses left tied to my gate which I don’t mind, I would rather that than them being left to die and dumped like this.”

She was riding her own horse when she spotted the bag at the side of the road.

“We opened the bag and it was a dead filly foal, I would say it was about eight or nine weeks old,” Daniela added.

“There’s just no need for it, We don’t know what the cause of death was. The filly was quite heavily covered in mud on her legs and body, her neck was twisted right round and obviously broken but we wouldn’t know if that happened before she died or when she was being dumped.”

After opening the bag Daniela studied the corpse to look for any wounds that could indicate how the foal had died but there were none.

Perhaps even more shockingly, Daniela was told by a farmer that this is the fourth foal that has been found in the area in a matter of months.

Daniela reported it to the Highway Agency’s environmental team who collected the animal.

After seeing many examples of dead foals being found dumped all over the country, Daniela feels this is part of a wider problem.

She said: “There’s no need for it. I think it’s people who want to get out of spending money because you have to pay to get the horse collection and for vet bills. If that is the case then why not give it to someone who can help. I rehome horses all the time, I get them back to good health, a lot of people are happy to take them and look after them. People are also breeding too many horses and then there are too many to look after.”
