Your Life Rugby world leader plans right on track

AN INITIATIVE to make Coventry a world leader in rugby is on track as it celebrates its first birthday.

Over the past 12 months more than 60,000 people of all ages in the city and surroundin­g areas have participat­ed in or watched a format of rugby-related activity.

The Coventry, a City of Rugby project is a collaborat­ion between key rugby organisati­ons to develop the game at all levels to make Coventry a leading city by 2023 – rugby’s 200th anniversar­y.

Its key aims include increasing participat­ion, improving rugby facilities, unlocking funding to support clubs and attracting major rugby events to Coventry.

There is also a particular focus on making the game more accessible to women and girls, people with disabiliti­es, and those from non-traditiona­l rugby playing background­s. The launch of Coventry, a City of Rugby, 12 months ago

Fifteen-year-old Skye Forster, from Coventry, has secured a place in the Miss England semi-finals. Skye was competing in the junior round but won the adult Charity Queen title at the event on April 1.

Skye, who has raised £2,000 for Coventry and Warwickshi­re Mind, will be the youngest contestant competing for the Miss England title.

“She has really enjoyed this and hopes to continue her fundraisin­g for this charity in the future,” said her mum, Kay.

Skye also won Miss Junior Coventry and Warwickshi­re Modelesque and Miss Coventry and Warwickshi­re Social Media.

The semi finals are due to be held at Kelham Hall, Nottingham­shire on June 4.
