NEW YORKER SINGER/SONGWRITER AND RADIO PRESENTER NELL BRYDEN REVEALS HER STYLE HIGHS AND LOWS

- BY MARION McMULLEN

What are you wearing at the moment? I love the New York label Rag and Bone, so I have two amazing pairs of jeans from them now on regular rotation. Other than that I’m almost exclusively a dress or skirt girl. Today I’m wearing a vintage black flowered dress and a Denim and Supply Ralph Lauren shirt. In winter I almost always wear black tights (100 denier) and boots.

Who’s your style icon? I don’t have a particular style icon, but there are looks that I love. Winona Ryder in the movie Reality Bites and Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller usually look pretty fierce, but really I’m much curvier than they are so I tailor looks that work on me.

What item of clothing do you spend the most on? Jackets and coats – if I love them I can’t help myself. Vintage, designer, whatever.

What is your favourite piece of clothing in your wardrobe? Actually it’s a scarf, an Alexander McQueen black skull scarf that’s very light and goes with everything.

What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe? I just got a Zadig & Voltaire black handbag that was incredibly expensive originally, but I got it from Century 21 in NYC where you get huge discounts.

What has been your biggest fashion faux pas? Oh so many! Things too tight, things too baggy, too many bits and bobs hanging off, too much vintage, awful patterns, too hippie, too mumsy.

Which is your favourite high street store? Topshop on Oxford Circus and Marks & Spencer. There are a lot of everyday essentials that I’ve scored there.

What did your mum teach you about fashion? Dress for your body type, and don’t become a victim to trends.
