COVENTRY University has reclaimed top spot as the UK’s most highly regarded new university in a leading higher education league table.

The fast-growing education institution was declared Top New University in the Complete University Guide 2018 league table.

As well as becoming the UK’s highest ranking new university, Coventry also climbed seven places to 43rd overall. It also made the top ten across five subject areas in the comparative tables, which rank 129 universities by measuring student satisfaction, research quality and graduate prospects.

Welcoming the news, Coventry University’s vicechancellor John Latham said: “Student experience is of the highest importance for us, with employability modules and international experiences built-in to our courses. “This is a truly excellent result both locally and nationally and I am pleased the efforts of staff to provide excellent teaching, along with the ongoing improvements at the university are continuing to be recognised.” Earlier this month Coventry University made the Times Higher Education’s (THE) latest league table of the best 200 institutions globally under 50 years old.

The UK is the best place in the world for top “young” universities, according to the new rankings.

A total of 27 UK institutions made the cut - more than any other nation, including Australia, which had 23 universities included, and France which took third place with 16 inclusions.

In May 2016 Coventry University was declared the best modern university in the UK.

The university, which was crowned University of the Year in 2015 by the Times, came top in the Guardian’s list of post-1992 institutions.

It also came 15th in the overall list, with neighbouring Warwick University ninth.

Earlier this month a 20-storey student accommodation block close to the city centre was given the green light by Coventry City Council’s planning committee.

Developers Crosslane Group said its interest in the city was due to the fact Coventry University is currently the fastest growing university in the UK by student enrolment.
