Politicians should work for us, not themselves

-

I WOULD like to ask Councillor Duggins why does the city need to keep £95 million in reserve? For what purpose? In my opinion in would be better to use some of it to improve or keep services in the city instead of cutting our bin collections and more importantly cuts to social care for the elderly and disabled residents of Coventry. I would also like to ask, why is it that we aren’t informed as to exactly what cuts and to what services are intended to be made and have already been made? More accountability is required to residents – after all, we are the ones funding everything. It seems to me that councillors and politicians forget that it isn’t their money they’re using but ours. Every penny that is spent on our behalf should be open to examination by us, the people. They are elected to represent us, not themselves. I am, as yet, undecided as to which party I am going to vote for in the general election in June, so the information I have asked for about the reserve funds will help me decide. I hope that anyone that happens to agree with me will feel the same way. I for one am fed up of broken promises, especially by the Tories. I have a good memory and hope others do too when they decide who they wish to vote for. Having said that, I also hope that people don’t waste their votes on minority parties that will never achieve enough votes to actually form a government. It is maybe time that we all become a bit more realistic in our thinking when casting our votes. What is happening in our city and country is unbelievable, the meaning of the word ‘organisation’ is something that many in power seem to have forgotten, as is common sense.

This country needs a fundamental change to the way things are done. Stop the constant waste of renaming departments for the sake of it then changing them back again – whoever has shares in the printing company that the government uses to print all the letter heads etc must be making a fortune. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.

It’s enough to make anyone scream with frustration. Enough already! Graham Moore Wyken
