SKY Blues in the Community has been chosen as our charity for the Telegraph’s Coventry and Warwickshire Heroes awards.

The Ricoh Arena-based cause funds itself while tackling big issues such as mental health, obesity, substance misuse and inequality.

Tickets have gone on sale for the glittering ceremony at the Ricoh Arena on Friday, May 26.

David Busst, director of Sky Blues in the Community, said: “Sky Blues in the Community are both humbled and delighted to be chosen as the charity for the Coventry Warwickshire Heroes awards.

“This opportunity will give us the platform to highlight and create awareness for all the projects and activities we deliver across the local communities in Coventry and Warwickshire. We would like to congratulate all the nominees and look forward to a great evening and raising money which we can use to impact within the community we serve.”

Over the last five years, the role of Sky Blues in the Community has changed dramatically, from offering traditional football development activities to playing a greater role in driving personal and community development in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Its work now is more than just football.

It has a number of projects that promote health and wellbeing, that are designed to target and appeal to specific groups, including primary school pupils, adult men, and men with mental illness.

The organisation became a registered charity in December 2008, financially independent from the football club and governed by an independent Board of Trustees.

It is supported by the Foot- ball League Trust, which oversees the work of community schemes at the 72 Football League clubs.

The awards nominations are now closed and the excitement is building ahead of the winners being announced on the night.

Our winners will share the stage with hosts TV presenter Emma Jesson and Cov Kid JD, the host of Free Radio’s breakfast show.

The event was formerly known as the Pride of Coventry and Warwickshire Awards.
