City man who grew cannabis spared jail
A MAN who grew 50 cannabis plants at his Coventry home has escaped being jailed - despite the “s e mi- p r o f e s s i o nal ” nature of his operation.
Sean Parle appeared at Warwick Crown Court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to cultivating the cannabis, which would have been worth tens of thousands of pounds.
Parle, 32, of Cheveral Avenue, Radford, was sentenced to 20 months in prison suspended for two years and ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work and to pay £200 costs.
Prosecutor Sophie Murray said that as long ago as 2015 the police raided Parle’s home and found two rooms were being used for the cultivation of cannabis.
There were 50 mature plants which would have produced an estimated yield of 1.4 kilos of the drug.
When he was arrested and interviewed Parle admitted he was growing it for commercial use.
Miss Murray pointed out that Parle was appearing in court with no legal representation, so she had therefore spoken to him before the hearing.
“He says he has put his life back on track, and is now in full-time employment,” she added.
Sentencing Parle after reading a pre-sentence report on him, Recorder Nicholas Syfret QC told him: “You are very fortunate not only to be prosecuted but defended by Miss Murray today.
