POST-BREXIT RETIREMENT FEARS

MORE than one in four retirees say they are worried that the decision to leave the EU will negatively impact their long-term finances, according to a survey.

Prudential’s Class of 2017 research provides a snapshot of the financial plans and aspirations of people planning to retire in the year ahead.

One-in-nine people have now changed their retirement date as a direct result of the EU referendum outcome and one-in-20 have changed the country they had planned to retire in. This includes some who had always planned to stay in the UK now looking at moving overseas.

Kirsty Anderson, a retirement expert at Prudential, said: “People planning to retire this year are expecting the highest incomes since 2008 so, on the face of it, Brexit has had little impact on their retirement expectations.

“However, looking below the surface, there is a degree of uncertainty and nervousness among many of this year’s retirees.”

MILLIONS AFFECTED BY BANK FRAUD

WE fear we are twice as likely to be a victim of bank fraud or have a credit or debit card stolen than have our house burgled in the next five years.

A report by research agency Populus also shows that five million people in the UK have been affected by bank fraud at some point.

Two-in-five consumers have no idea what security their bank has in place to help protect them from crooks.

Yet almost half of people claim that good security features come into the top three things they want from their account, along with good interest rates and a recommendation from family or friends.

Meanwhile, people are not doing enough to keep themselves safe from fraudsters as almost a third admit they use the same password for multiple accounts and more than one in 10 write their full account details in texts.
