Your Life Amber’s art tribute to nan

-

A YOUNG artist is paying tribute to her beloved nan as part of her course project – and raising money for charity in the process.

After her nan Claudine Diane passed away from lung cancer at the age of 70, Amber Jesson, 19, decided to use her art in a positive way in her memory – and is now raising money for Cancer Research UK.

“She was an artist herself and always encouraged my love for art, so doing a project like this means a lot to me because I want to make her proud,” Amber said of her nan, who lived in Paris and passed away in 2014.

“By the time we realised she had cancer, she was Stage 4. In her memory I wanted to open this donation fund – but also in mem- ory to all of those who have suffered or are currently fighting.”

Amber is studying for an Art Foundation degree at King Edward VI College in Nuneaton. For her final project, she decided to explore the concept of cancer by creating a walk-in, interac- Amber Jesson with her artwork and right, with her nan Claudine Diane in 2006 tive installation of cancer cells, all crocheted by hand.

Amber is not even halfway through her piece, yet she has already used more than 1,500m of string.

The finished piece will be on show to the public as part of an exhibition at King Edward VI College from Monday, June 26 to Friday, June 30, alongside work by fellow students. There will also be a donation box at the exhibition.

Amber is hoping to raise at least £300. You can make a donation via her fundraising page at justgiving.com/ fundraising/Amber-Jesson ALMOST 200 Scouts and Guides will be staging a show this weekend to raise money for children less fortunate than themselves.

Members of Warwickshire, Coventry, Kenilworth and Nuneaton Gang Shows are joining together this coming Sunday for the show at Butterworth Hall at Warwick Arts Centre.

It’s all in aid of Action for Children and promises to deliver a great evening of family entertainment, featuring material from their recent shows as well as some all-new performances.

Show producer Nigel Hailey said: “It is great working with the young people; their energy and commitment to putting on a polished show is infectious.

“We have some very talented young people appearing.

“The audience will have a great time and leave with a smile on their face.”
