‘Persistent’ drink driver sent to prison for 12 weeks

A “PERSISTENT drinkdrive­r” was jailed after being caught behind the wheel while banned.

Anthony Michael Kempton, 51, of no fixed address, was again over the legal drink-drive limit having given a reading of 41 micrgramme­s of alcohol per 100 millilitre­s of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcg.

Kempton was stopped in his car on John Wigley Way, in Foleshill, on March 16.

He admitted drinkdrivi­ng at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court, driving while disqualifi­ed and driving without insurance.

Kempton was sent to prison for 12 weeks as the offence was seen as so serious due to him being a “persistent drink-driver”.

He was also banned from driving for four years and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court on Friday, March 17, included: Samuel Farrelly, 26, of Coombe Street, Stoke, admitted assault by beating. He was fined £115 and ordered to pay £100 compensati­on and a £30 victim surcharge.

Bailey Montague, 32, of Alfred Road, Hillfields, admitted causing £340 of damage to a car windscreen. She was ordered to pay £340 compensati­on and £135 court costs.

Anthony Neelan, 30, of Branksome Road, Coundon, admitted driving without insurance. He had six points endorsed on his driving licence, was fined £120 and ordered to pay £35 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

David Wilson, 50, of Sundew Street, Wood End, admitted drinkdrivi­ng in Harnall Lane East (breath 48, limit 35) and driving without insurance. He was banned from driving for 14 months, fined £268 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Jonathan Baillie, 45, of Pinnock Place, Tile Hill, admitted assault by beating. He was sent to prison for 12 weeks and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Vikash Chohan, 44, of Alliance Way, Stoke Heath, admitted assault by beating and driving without due care and attention. He was sent to prison for 18 weeks, ordered to pay £100 compensati­on and had three points endorsed on his driving licence.

Nauris Ennitis, 26, of Coronation Road, Hillfields, admitted breaching a community order by failing to attend unpaid work. They were given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year for original offence of drink-driving, given 100 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £60 court costs.

Harnam Jhimb, 28, of St George’s Road, Lower Stoke, admitted assault by beating. He was sent to prison for eight weeks and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Daniel McDermott, 30, of Valentine Road, Rugby, admitted stealing items worth £139 from B&M. He was fined £83 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
