ONE in five children get sunburnt at primary school, a survey found. They are catching too many rays in the playground and on the sport fields by not having enough protection. Some burn as much as once a week during the summer term, the poll of 2,000 parents revealed. The study found two thirds of mums and dads would like rules relaxed so that primary teachers can slap lotion on their children. The British Skin Foundation advises kids to cover up and put on suitable sunscreen.

OLDER people should carry shopping or take up the non-competitive martial art Tai Chi to improve their strength and balance and avoid falls, experts say.

Gardening and dance classes can also help, according to the Centre for Ageing Better. The charity estimates four in 10 over-70s underestimate how important good strength and balance is to reduce the chances of falls.
