PayPlan has found that more than nine out of 10 of its customers have experienced stress as a result of debt, eight out of 10 have suffered anxiety and almost two-thirds have suffered with insomnia and depression.
Four out of five people said that they would not tell friends and family that they were suffering money problems.
Jane Clack, a money adviser at PayPlan who has been in debt herself, said: “Mental health and money worries do not discriminate. These issues affect people across all demographics, no matter what their age, race, class or background.
“As a society, we need to end the stigma and start talking honestly about our mental wellbeing and financial troubles so that those most at risk can get the support they need.” DIVORCE BRINGS INHERITANCE CONCERNS FOR PARENTS MORE than three-quarters of over55s want to have some control over how the next generation spends their inheritance, a survey has found.

About a third (30%) do not want their wealth “squandered” by children, while one in four (26%) are concerned a spouse of their child could take a portion of their inheritance pot in the event of divorce.
