We need decent loos and to keep our clock

-

I AGREE with Michael Smith (May 8), one of the main facilities our city is lacking is good public toilets.

We should not have to go into cafes or pubs to use their facilities.

Whatever happened to the underground ones, that were always clean and cared for, in the Precinct before the dreadful escalator went in?

Were they filled in just to have planters built over them?

Our Precinct was well thought out originally, with a water feature, walkway above it, so we could enter via the escalator just inside M&S or BHS buildings to access the electricity showrooms and other shops along the top, or via wheelchair access via a ramp from Broadgate.

I also wondered if it would be an idea to approach our university’s engineering section to maintain the Godiva clock? This again is a precious part of our city centre, but if we don’t look out, someone will say: “It is too cartoony and old fashioned now, we should pull it out and put in a trendy one”. No we shouldn’t. It is cute and of its time, and when Hertford Street is opened again, all it needs is regular maintenance. Sheila Bates Tile Hill South
