So tired of being taken for granted by councils

-

WHAT exactly do the residents of Keresley End get, for the whopping council tax rise just implemented? The well-heeled councillors who meet at Nuneaton Town Hall might know, but I don’t. Services have been totally slashed in the area. The library hardly opens, the pub and social club were demolished without any consultation. The post office was shunted to the far end of the village and services for children are a joke. A couple of football pitches and a broken swing. People in big cars go into the community centre. They must be the support workers. God knows what they do, but I bet they pick up a big salary. The only service I’m familiar with is the clothes bank. People are tired of being taken for granted. This is our community and we should be supported more, both financially and with meaningful projects. Is anybody listening? John Walsh Keresley End

Tragic waste of a young life

IT WAS such a tragic event that took place at Drayton Manor theme park, but it brings into question whether theme parks provide some kind of life jackets for young children to wear? These could be placed on the children before embarking on water rides, and in the event of an accident taking place as in the case of the young girl, and the boy from Rugby, the life jacket could have kept them above water, until they could have been helped. It is such a tragic waste of a young life. Let us hope it never happens again. Sandra Camwell Keresley

It is our right to question decisions

OH DEAR, I’ve upset Labour apologist Andy McDonald again (Letters, May 11).

Not only does Mr McDonald misrepresent what I said – I did not claim that Cllr O’Boyle is responsible for the loss of 250 jobs – but he also constantly lambasts me for having the audacity to criticise the sainted Labour leadership of Coventry City Council.

We all know that in Mr McDonald’s world the Labour Party can do no wrong but let me assure him that those of us in the real world wish to expose the shocking mismanagement of our city, as is our right while we still live in a democracy.

Coventry Labour has presided over the catastrophic shambles that Friargate has become and while Mr McDonald might be happy to see Labour councillors squander millions on this failing project while blaming ‘austerity’ for their savage cuts to basic local services, I and many others are not.

The bottom line is that the Friargate building has no tenants, RICS who had expressed an interest in relocating to the site were let down resulting in their eventual decision to leave the city altogether and all our jobs and regeneration guru, Cllr O’Boyle could say was that he has “bigger fish to fry”.

I find it very telling that Mr McDonald never produces a credible or indeed, any counter-argument to the actual issues I raise, preferring instead to attack me for daring to criticise decisions a great many people disagree with.

Need I say more? Matthew Batson Coundon
