Warriors ace selected by Springboks

-

RUGBY UNION: Worcester’s Francois Hougaard has been named in South Africa’s 31-man squad for their upcoming home series against France.

The Warriors’ scrum-half was in scintillating form towards the end of the Premiership campaign and has been rewarded as he looks to build on his 39 international caps.

Hougaard, who has played 19 times for Worcester, provided four assists and scored two tries in his nine league appearances last term.

The Springboks take on France three times in June in Pretoria, Durban and Johannesburg.

FOOTBALL: England defender Fikayo Tomori scored a spectacular own goal as they drew 1-1 with Guinea at the Under-20 World Cup.

The Chelsea centre-back managed to beat Dean Henderson from near the halfway line after launching a backpass towards his keeper.

Henderson was left scrambling to reach the ball but his desperate attempts failed and it rolled into an empty net.

England had taken the lead just after half-time through Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook but Tomori’s error earned Guinea a draw.

England remain top of Group A after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Argentina and play hosts South Korea in Suwon on Friday.

TENNIS: Petra Kvitova is “on track” to play at Wimbledon less than seven months after suffering a hand injury when she was stabbed by an intruder at her home.

Kvitova’s representative, Katie Spellman, said the 27-year-old could also return at the French Open, which starts in Paris next week.

The two-time Wimbledon champion has been sidelined since suffering tendon and nerve damage in her hand in the attack in the Czech Republic in December.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Kyle Edmund battled into the second round of the Lyon Open with a 2-6 6-4 6-1 victory over Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.
