Shoplifter sent to prison

A PERSISTENT shoplifter was jailed for six weeks after being caught stealing razor blades from a city supermarke­t.

Sean Gillings was arrested after being caught red-handed at the Sainsbury’s store, next to the AT7 sports centre, on March 23.

When he appeared at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court the very next day, the 27-year-old admitted stealing and was sent to prison for six weeks.

The magistrate­s quoted his “appalling record for offences of dishonesty” as an aggravatin­g factor and that Gllings, of Ribble Road, Stoke, had been recalled to prison on other matters.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court on Friday, March 24, included:

Ross Galvin, 24, of Oratory Drive, Willenhall, admitted driving without insurance, driving without a licence and failing to provide a specimen. He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £59 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Ranjit Toura, 37, of Nicholls Street, Hillfields, was found guilty in his absence of stealing a wallet, bank cards and £40 cash. He was sent to prison for 28 days and ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

Adam Nicklin, 35, of Main Road, Ansty, was found guilty of failing to provide a specimen and admitted failing to answer bail. He had 10 points endorsed on his driving licence, fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

William Staples, 35, of Middleboro­ugh Road, Radford, admitted three counts of stealing DVDs worth a total of £260 from WHSmith and failing to answer bail. He was given a community order including a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t, fined £20 and ordered to pay £260 compensati­on.

Tomasz Dobrzynski, 34, of Cubbington Road, Aldermans Green, admitted drink-driving in Burnaby Road (breath 80, limit 35). He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £276 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Jane Holland, 42, of Windsor Street, Spon End, admitted two counts of assault and assaulting a police officer. She was given a community order including rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t, fined £20 and ordered to pay £150 compensati­on.

Jakub Piskor, 36, of Parry Road, Radford, admitted driving without insurance. He had six points endorsed on his driving licence, fined £120 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Maria Raducanu, 18, of Holmsdale Road, Foleshill, admitted stealing a handbag and clothing worth £119 from TK Maxx. She was given a 12-month conditiona­l discharge and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Paul Travers, 41, of Sebastian Close, Toll Bar End, admitted taking a vehicle without consent, drinkdrivi­ng in Dillotford Avenue (breath 64, limit 35), driving without insurance and driving without a licence. He was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £445 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £26 victim surcharge.

James Watson, 28, of Drayton Crescent, Eastern Green, admitted drink-driving in Pickford Green Lane (breath 79, limit 35). He was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £440 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £44 victim surcharge.
