- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

A NUNEATON school was forced to close after a fire swept through at an early years centre based at the site.

Parents and carers were told to keep their children away from Camp Hill Primary School yesterday following the blaze at the Camp Hill Early Years Centre just after 5.30pm on Monday.

The school said it was hoping to re-open today. In a text sent to parents and carers on Monday night, the Hollystitches Road school said: “Due to a fire at the early years centre, the school will close tomorrow.

“Although the school is not hit by the fire, the whole site has no power.

“Emergency services will be on hand hopefully to get us running by Wednesday. Please keep your children away from the site on Tuesday.”

And a short statement on the school’s website said yesterday: “Following the fire, there is no power on the school site. Therefore, school will be closed today. Thank you.”

The cause of the fire is still not known although fire investigators were due to visit the site yesterday.

Crews from the town’s fire station responded to 999 calls made just after 5.30pm to reports of the fire.

When they arrived, firefighters found the building was well alight.

They called for back-up and two more engines were sent to the scene - one from Bedworth and another from Atherstone.

Fire crews used two hose reels, six breathing apparatus and small gear to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters remained at the site for another hour before returning to their stations.
