Suspended sentence for road rage attack

A DRIVER who carried out a racially aggravated road rage attack in Coventry avoided going to jail.

Matthew Bodey had denied the assault, which took place on October 25 last year, but was found guilty at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court.

The 28-year-old, from Cheshire Close, Stoke Aldermoor, was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year and ordered to pay £200 compensati­on and £625 prosecutio­n costs.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court on Tuesday, April 11, included:

Vasile Capatan, 37, of Churchill Avenue, Foleshill, admitted drinkdrivi­ng in Mansel Street (breath 78, limit 35) and driving without insurance. He was banned from driving for 22 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Matthew Ismay, 27, of Kingfield Road, Foleshill, admitted possession of cocaine, crack cocaine and diamorphin­e, driving without insurance and driving without a licence. He was given a community order including a drug rehabilita­tion requiremen­t, had six points endorsed on his driving licence and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Stephen Hazell, 38, of Farren Road, Wyken, admitted failing to answer bail. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge.

Younis Mashin, 43, of Station Street East, Foleshill, admitted stealing a knife set worth £30 from Aldi and wilfully obstructin­g a police officer. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £20 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

David Pemberton, 43, of Black Prince Avenue, Cheylesmor­e, admitted failing to comply with supervisio­n requiremen­ts following release from prison. He was returned to prison for 14 days.

Sarah Wyatt, 26, of no fixed address, admitted possession of diamorphin­e and crack cocaine, stealing 10 Ralph Lauren jumpers worth £399 from TK Maxx, failing to answer bail and failing to attend a drugs assessment. She was given a community order including a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t and ordered to pay a £85 victim surcharge.

Wayne Elliot, 48, of The Coppice, Stoke Aldermoor, admitted causing £279 worth of damage to a TV. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £279 compensati­on and £50 court costs.

Raiman Panciu, 34, of St Nicholas Close, Hillfields, was found guilty of failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £180 and ordered to pay £400 court costs and a £30 surcharge.

George Kimani, 20, of Attoxhall Road, Wyken, admitted two counts of breaching a restrainin­g order. He was sent to prison for six months and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
