THOUSANDS of revellers are expected at Coventry Pride in the heart of the city this weekend.

The colourful celebration of diversity will transform University Square, opposite Coventry Cathedral, and sites across the city centre and Coventry University.

It’s two years since Coventry held its first annual Pride festival at Fargo Village which drew a crowd of more than 6,000 people and it now attracts more than 8,000.

David Wilson, trustee of Coventry Pride, said: “Pride’s aim is to promote equality and diversity for all communities across the city. I want everyone to feel relaxed about who they are. It is great that Coventry University shares these values.

“Coventry lets nothing get in its way – the bombs, the ‘sent to Coventry’ jokes, the ring road – all these things show that it is a city of resilient people who don’t take themselves too seriously!”

Here’s a round-up of what you can see and when at the two-day event: University Square will have three stages of music, plus food, drink and community stalls. Fargo Fringe will be at Fargo Village where there will be a LGBT+ art show and entertain- ment. Meanwhile a fun fair will be outside Coventry Transport Museum.

On Saturday there will be an official after party at Rainbows, in Short Street, from 9pm. Coventry Central Hall in Warwick Lane will have a rainbow LGBT+ inclusive church service on Sunday at 6.30pm, for a 6.45pm start.

The Yard, in Bull Yard, will host an up and coming LGBT+ stand up comedy show on Sunday from 2pm.
