We want answers on cuts to London trains

-

DESPITE your paper’s best efforts, you did not really secure a response from Chris Grayling about the future of the three express trains between Coventry and London.

It is now over 12 months since the Department of Transport, in a consultation document, suggested that there would be a reduction of express trains in relation to intermediate stations like Coventry.

That consultation concluded in August and Coventry City Council made its position clear that we were opposed to the loss of the three express trains between Coventry and London per hour.

To date, it is still not clear what the proposals are around the future franchising on the West Coast Mainline and Chris Grayling’s answer was not sufficiently specific.

What is clearly needed is a simple yes or no and we will continue to argue for the retention of three express trains between Coventry and London – not just in the short-term but in the longer-term. Councillor George Duggins (pictured) Leader of Coventry City Council

Get a grip – fix our clock

WHAT an advert to the world. Coventry – the city that exported engineering skills around the world and now we are trying for the title City of Culture, plus our wonderful universities – and yet we cannot get a clock working? Come on, get a grip for goodness sake. W Sneddon Field March

Happy memories of Morris dance event

LOVE the picture you put in the paper on Wednesday of Morris dancers outside Kenilworth Castle, which does bring back really happy memories.

In the picture is my father, playing the melodeon.

I am one of the dancers, all in all there is actually three generations of my family in that picture – a copy of which I possess.

Happy days. David Cleaver Coventry

What next for our city’s aviation?

SOME time after Sir Peter Rigby “saved” Coventry Airport, its very existence was criticised by the boss of Birmingham Airport.

I was therefore surprised when after this, without apparent criticism from Sir Peter, the city council or Chamber of Commerce (which for years had both pledged support for Coventry Airport), this same critic of our airport was appointed to the board.

I wondered if this was the first nail in the coffin for our airport?

I now wonder if his acquisition of aviation facilities is the next nail for Coventry, whose list of users of the Baginton jet centre makes interesting reading.

However, Sir Peter or none of his staff ever appear to issue press releases about interesting flights/ users, like all previous owners who realised because many citizens are interested the importance of good relations/publicity. B Morton Green Lane
