A MAN was beaten up with golf clubs and a bottle in Bedworth at the weekend.

Police are trying to trace a suspect after the victim was assaulted in the area around Bellairs Avenue, Potters Road and Kathleen Avenue.

Residents were alerted to what police called a “serious incident” on Sunday morning when they woke up to the sound of a police helicopter in the area.

Now Warwickshire Police has confirmed it was reported that a man was physically assaulted by two other men at around 4.13am.

Officers believe the victim was attacked with long metal poles, believed to be golf clubs, and a bottle.

He was taken to hospital with head injuries.

After the assault, the two attackers left the scene in a silver Ford Focus, which was found on Henson Road in Bedworth.

Police believe the two men ran away from where the car was parked.

A 29-year-old man from Nune- aton has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released under investigation.

Police are urging any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may have seen either of the two offenders in the area at the time, to come forward and call 101, quoting incident 78 of June 11.
