Fans come from far and wide as red-hot Robbie rocks the Ricoh
ROBBIE Williams rocked the Ricoh Arena last night as the singer’s Heavy Entertainment Show Tour rolled into town.
Despite suffering with a bit of back pain, the star wowed the crowds with both solo and Take That hits, setting fans wild as he unleashed favourites such as Let Me Entertain You, Kids and Never Forget upon the stadium.
Wearing a leather kilt, the former Take That star performed songs from his 11th studio album, as well as hits from across a career that spans three decades, on a boxing-ring style stage framed by two ‘battling’ Robbie silhouettes.
In between the hits he spoke of his daughter, Teddy, and also paid tribute to George Michael, describing him as “godlike” before doing a cover of Freedom 90 – one of the first songs he performed as a solo artist.
Ever the showman, Robbie then went on to perform with the crowd, launching into acapella-style retro karaoke with Livin’ on a Prayer, Take on Me, Simply the Best, Kiss, Don’t You Want Me and Stayin’ Alive – setting up parts of the stadium to compete.
But the most emotional moment came when the star spoke to the crowd about his father – who he then brought on stage to perform a duet of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.
The 43-year-old chose Coventry over rival locations for the only Midland date on a tour that is taking him all over the world.
The singer revealed he was delighted that Erasure were his support act for the tour, giving the shows an almost doubleheader appeal.
Other highlights included Motherf*****, which merged into The Beatles hit Hey Jude, before topping things off with a finale that included Feel, Rock DJ and Strong.
