PUT SPRINKLERS IN ALL OF OUR TOWER BLOCKS

SWIFT justice was served on a would-be burglar caught in the act in Coventry city centre.

Police were called to reports of a break-in in progress at Generation Barber Shop, in Far Gosford Street, at around 5am on Tuesday.

Officers arrived within four minutes and arrested Edward Burke.

He was charged with entering as a trespasser with intent to steal and going equipped for theft with screwdrive­rs, torches, a small metal bar and gloves.

The unemployed 54-year-old appeared at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court the same day where his address was given as Riley Square, Bell Green.

He pleaded guilty to both offences and was jailed for 14 weeks.

Burke – who police had stated lived in Hillfields – was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
