A DAD is appealing for witnesses after his daughter was allegedly assaulted outside a shop in Nuneaton.

Warren Walklate’s 12-year-old daughter was injured when a woman attacked her last Friday at around 8pm.

He told the Telegraph the assault happened after his daughter had bumped into a man in the street before going to a shop.

She was later confronted by a woman outside the shop who pushed her into the window before trying to drag her away.

Mr Walklate said: “She was walking down Arbury Road with her three friends and bumped into a man and he turned round and gave her some abuse. She said sorry and walked off to the R and R supermarket in Church Road.

“When she was walking off she saw the man on the phone to someone and now thinks that could be connected to her being assaulted.”

Mr Walklate’s daughter walked out of the shop and was met with a woman who she did not know.

He added: “She asked her how old she was, she didn’t tell her at first and then she asked again and she said she was 12.

“The woman grabbed her from the front of her hoodie and pushed her back into the shop window.”

After speaking to the shop Mr Walklate got hold of the CCTV from the time of the incident but due to the angle it was filmed from it isn’t very clear.

Mr Walklate is keen for any witnesses to come forward to help police with their investigation.

The assault left the girl bruised and Mr Walklate is relieved that the effects were not worse.

“She has bruised her shoulder blades and she rammed her so hard that her phone, which was in her back pocket, broke,” Mr Walklate said.

“After that the woman from the shop came out and the woman assaulting her tried to drag my daughter away but the woman from the shop stopped her.

“That’s what shocked me when I saw the CCTV, you can see the force being used,

“It’s not right, the woman who assaulted her was an adult, that shouldn’t be happening.

“It makes you worried as a parent, I didn’t want my daughter to be scared about going out, that’s the time of your life.

“There’s not a lot a 12 year old kid can do in that situation.”

Warwickshire Police has confirmed it is investigating a report of an assault on Church Road in Stockingford at around 8pm on Friday, June 16.

A spokesperson said: “A 12-year-old girl was walking when she is believed to have been accidentally pushed into an unknown man by friends.

“Shortly afterwards an unknown woman challenged the girl and was thought to be verbally abusive before pushing her into a shop window.

“The girl suffered bruising to her upper body but did not require hospital treatment.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing but officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or who can help with the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 456 of June 16.
