A MAN and a woman have been jailed after police found a cannabis factory in Rugby.

Damon Edwards and Kerrianne Cole were both found guilty of production of cannabis following a trial at Warwick Crown Court and were sentenced last week.

Edwards, 30, of Buchanan Road, Rugby, was found guilty of two counts of production of cannabis and offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act, while 40-year-old Cole, previously of Round Gardens, Rugby, was found guilty of one count of production of cannabis.

They were sentenced on Friday with Edwards handed three years in prison and Cole sentenced to one year and eight months behind bars.

On April 28 last year, officers raided a property in Buchanan Road where they discovered cannabis along with other drug related paraphernalia, and £3,800 in cash.

Another property connected to the pair – in Thomson Close, Rugby – was then raided and police discovered a cannabis factory that contained 71 plants with a potential street value of £28,000.

Detective Constable Gary Hammond, of Rugby Police, said: “I hope this case sends a strong message to people in the Warwickshire community that we will not tolerate drug dealing and we will also not allow properties to be used for the production of cannabis.

“Thankfully, these drugs never made it onto the street and they have been destroyed.

“Warwickshire Police are dedicated to tackling drug supply in the community but we always need the help of local residents. I would ask anyone who may know where drugs are being supplied or produced to call us as soon as possible.”
