THIS was the moment a Coventry dad and daughter said cheese at Cheddar Gorge - and grabbed a selfie with Grammy Award-winning singer Alicia Keys.

Richard Hanlon took his 10-year-old daughter Amelia for a day trip to the Mendips on Saturday when they saw the ‘Empire State of Mind’ songstress.

They were climbing the 248step Jacob’s Ladder at Cheddar Gorge when Richard spotted the American pop star.

Richard, from Stoke, said: “When we got there, some guy asked if we liked Alicia Keys, and then told us that she was climbing Jacob’s Ladder.

“I said to him I would go and have a look and the next thing, I saw her.

“I am petrified of heights and I got halfway up and said I couldn’t go any further.

“But my daughter said she would go up on her own, and when she went higher, Alicia did say to ‘watch out for the little girl’.

“She seemed really lovely, and even the people around her were nice. I went up, too, in the end, and I took a few photos of the view and some selfies.”

Richard said he took a picture with Alicia in the background just as his phone was running low on battery.

He added: “My camera was dying and was on about ten per cent. Luckily I got the picture before it died. “Alicia and the people she was with were being shown around by a woman there.

“We had a bit of a chat with her just about the view and she was really nice. “I wondered what she might be doing there as it is a bit of a random place, but they said they had been staying in Bristol, so we thought she may have been at Glastonbury.

“Not many people I’ve told think it is real, but after looking at her Instagram, it is 100 per cent her.”
