Changes put jobs at risk

JOBS are under threat at one of Nuneaton’s biggest employers.

Dairy Crest, which has its National Distribution Centre based in the town, is proposing to make a number of changes.

It is carrying out a ‘review of operations’ and is looking to make a number of changes within the warehouse, customer operations and stock management teams at Bermuda Park.

This, according to a spokesperson, may result in a “small number of redundancies” among its xxx staff, but the aim is to re d e p l oy e mpl o y - ees “wherever possible”.

In a full statement, the spokesperson said: “As part of the sale of the Dairies business in December 2015, Dairy Crest signed a distribution agreement with Muller to supply transport and warehouse services out of its Nuneaton National Distribution Centre (NDC) for a period of 18 months.

“Muller announced in January 2017 its intention to terminate this agreement during July 2017.

“Dairy Crest entered into a successful strategic partnership with Fowler Welch in March 2016, to attract new volume into the Nuneaton NDC.

“This relationship has already shown success with additional volume for Winterbotham Darby commencing earlier this year and other sales opportunities are being actively progressed.”

Just a few years ago, workers at Dairy Crest faced a period of uncertainty when the company’s dairies operations were sold to the Müller UK and Ireland Group.

The company agreed to sell the majority of its assets to Müller for £80million.

There were concerns that could mean big changes for the Nuneaton workers but the site in Walsingham Drive was one of the few to remain as part of Dairy Crest.

Now the company is looking to review its operations but is yet to confirm how many members of staff are at risk. The spokesperson added: “Dairy Crest is undertaking a review of its NDC operations and is proposing to make some changes within the warehouse, customer operations and stock management teams.

“Regrettably this review may result in a small number of redundancies however Dairy Crest’s aim is to redeploy employees wherever possible. We have now entered into a period of consultation with the affected employees and their representatives.”
