New retirement home in town TRY TELEGRAPH TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2017

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton reporter

RESIDENTS will soon get chance to see the plans for a retirement home on the outskirts of Nuneaton town centre.

As the Telegraph previously reported, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council sold the car park land it owns in Church Street to McCarthy and Stone.

The actual fee has not been disclosed, although it was confirmed that £500,000 from the sale will be pumped into the regeneration of the town centre.

Now McCarthy and Stone has announced that it plans to use the land to create “highquality retirement living apartments” with “attractive new landscaping” and car parking.

But it has been stressed that the plans are still preliminary and no planning application has been submitted to the town hall.

Instead the firm says that it is committed to engaging with the local community and has offered neighbouring residents and community representatives the chance to meet individually with the project team to discuss the early proposals.

They have said that, “where possible”, their input will be incorporated into the plan.

A public exhibition for the wider community to view and comment on the emerging plans, as well as the opportunity to meet the project team and to ask questions is scheduled to be held in the coming months, with dates still to be confirmed.

Martin Edwards, deputy regional managing director at McCarthy and Stone, said: “Our plans offer an exciting opportunity to regenerate the site and to create a sensitive residential scheme for older homeowners, which will positively contribute to the character of the area and improve the housing choices for local older people.

“We are keen to show our initial design and ideas for the site to the local community and we look forward to receiving local feedback at this early stage before our plans are finalised.”

The firm has said that they believe there is a ‘strong need’ for this type of specialist retirement accommodation across Nuneaton.
