Former City starlet relishing latest move

-

FORMER Coventry City striker Shaun Jeffers – once viewed as better prospect than Callum Wilson – has signed for Boreham Wood.

The 25-year-old came through the City Academy under Gregor Rioch but was released by the Sky Blues in May 2012.

The ex-Sky Blues starlet was ahead of eventual Premier League striker Wilson in the pecking order but made just eight appearances for City. He was in the same year group as the Bournemouth striker along with Jordan Clarke, Nathan Cameron, Lee Burge, Cyrus Christie, Conor Thomas, Gael Bigirimana and Josh Ruffels – all of whom have established careers.

After being let go by Coventry Jeffers signed for Peterborough, scoring against his former club as the Posh went down to a 4-2 defeat in December 2013, before leaving for Newport County in January 2014.

Jeffers scored only three times in his 34 appearances for Newport before joining up with Yeovil Town.

The striker made 25 appearances for the Glovers, scoring once, before netting 21 times in 31 matches for Chelmsford following a 2016 move.

“It is a great club, with a great ambition and I cannot wait to get started,” said Jeffers.

“I am definitely a better player than when I was on trial here last year, I am more confident in my own ability, I have proven what I can do and I am delighted that the gaffer got in touch with me again.

“My goal scoring record has improved on last year; my all-round play has definitely developed and I think that my game is coming together well.”
