Henley College principal is to retire after 15 years in charge

HENLEY College principal Ray Goy is retiring at the end of July after 15 years at the helm.

The news comes as Henley College prepares to merge with City College on August 1.

Mr Goy said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my 15 years of leading Henley College Coventry and I am proud of all that Henley has achieved for its students and the city.

“What has been so striking about working in Coventry is the willingness of partner agencies to join together to raise expectations and bring about a renaissance in the city’s affairs. I have worked with so many talented and dedicated colleagues outside the college; from the early days of the Education Action Zone, and the New Deal for Communities to the various incarnations of the Coventry Partnership and, latterly, the Coventry and Warwickshire Champions.

“However, I reserve my highest praise for the students, staff and governors of the college who have enriched my time here beyond measure.

“A group of students told me approvingly that Henley felt like part of their family – I know just what they mean.”

A new principal has been appointed to oversee the merger at the start of next month.

Mr Goy added: “So good luck to Coventry College, and good luck to Coventry; whether or not it succeeds in its bid to become City of Culture 2021, it certainly feels like a far more self-confident and ambitious place than when I started at Henley all that time ago.”
