PITCH PERFECT

-

THE Ricoh Arena pitch is set to be in pristine condition after undergoing major renovation work this summer ahead of another action-packed season of football and rugby.

The XtraGrass hybrid surface installed by pitch experts GreenFields for Wasps RFC and used by Coventry City will be back to its best next month in time for the Sky Blues opening match of the new campaign.

Mark Robins’s men kick-off their League Two season at home to Notts County on August 5, swiftly followed by entertaining Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers a few days later in the League Cup.

Colin Lyons, Technical Sales Manager at GreenFields UK said: “Our grounds team at the Ricoh along with Premier Pitches have worked hard over the past few weeks to successfully renovate the hybrid XtraGrass pitch.

“The pitch is looking fantastic now and it will be ready to take on the action packed season for both the Wasps and Coventry City FC starting in just three weeks time.”

The hybrid pitch, which is part artificial and part grass, is moving into its third year at the Ricoh Arena.

Aviva Premiership Wasps finished runners up last season while City played over 30 home games on the surface that also hosted the Rugby League Four Nations and a sell-out Robbie Williams concert.

The GreenFields product is designed to withstand dual sports as well as additional events due to its increased strength and durability compared to natural grass.

Over the past month, the GreensFields grounds team, supported by Premier Pitches turf renovation contractors, carried out a number of mechanical operations to effectively clean the surface to enable new grass sward to develop.
