City gearing up for new indoor go-karting track
AN indoor go-karting track is coming to Coventry after councillors gave the green light to develop a former factory.
Coventry City Council’s planning committee have approved plans to demolish a former Topshop factory, in Edgwick Park Industrial Estate on Canal Road.
A 25,000 sq ft purpose-built racing venue is planned by TeamSport, which has more than 20 facilities across the country.
TeamSport already has indoor tracks in big UK cities like Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.
It also operates sites in Crawley, Bristol, Cardiff, Brighton, Sheffield, Reading and Surrey.
As well as the 25,000 sq ft go-kart racing venue, the proposals could see the development of eight, 5,000 sq ft commercial units.
Forty-nine car parking spaces would be situated outside the venue, with the other eight units having seven each.
The scheme was recommended for approval by planning officers, despite six letters of objection being received and a petition protesting about the plan.
In a report to the planning committee council officers said: “The principle of development is acceptable given the historic use of the site and extant permissions, the design of the development is considered to be acceptable, the proposal will not significantly adversely impact upon highway safety or the amenity of neighbours. The proposal is considered to be acceptable in all other respects.”
No precise details have yet been given for TeamSport’s Coventry facility but on its website the company says: “For fast and furious four-wheeled thrills, no one does it better than TeamSport.
