Proposal to build new student accommodation

PLANNING bosses are to consider whether to allow a six-storey student accommodation block in Coventry.

The proposal is for 47 student flats on disused land between 57 and 71 Berry Street, Stoke. The land was previously used to store scrap.

Developer Saffron Homes UK based in Cannon Park has applied to Coventry City Council for permission to build the flats.

The developer says the area already has a mix of high rise flats, medium rise flats and houses.

The developer also says the development will blend in with the rest of the area. And that it is development on a brownfield site which is more likely to get planning permission than building on fields. The developer says there are bus routes nearby and the building would be within walking distance of Coventry University.

People have until Friday July 28 to send a comment to Coventry City Council about the plans. After that the council’s planning officers will make a decision.

In Clay Lane, also in Stoke, a 37 bedroomed student accommodation building has just been given planning permission.

Coventry based developer Prestige Construction GB have permission for the building at Haven Lodge.

The company has three years to start work or bosses will have to apply for planning permission again.
