Pals pay tribute to man who died after his arrest

TRIBUTES have poured in for a man who died after being arrested by police in Nuneaton.

Darren Cumberbatc­h, who was nicknamed by pals as “the fresh prince of Bell Green” has been described as a “top lad” by grieving friends.

The police watchdog has launched an investigat­ion into the 32-year-old’s death.

Tributes to Darren, often called Daz by friends, have filled social media since people have learned his death.

Kimberley Murphys said: “Oh wow I can’t believe it R.I.P Dar- ren Cumberbatc­h you were such a decent lad thoughts and prayers with the family at this sad time.”

Steven Nesden said: “Gutted to wake up to the sad news of me old pal Darren Cumberbatc­h, top top lad and will be missed by many R.I.P bro.”

Darren had grown up in Coventry of and was nicknamed The Fresh Prince of Bell Green. His friend Shane Brown said: “The fresh prince of Bell Green, the world has lost a shining light, truly a gentleman and friend to many. “Absolutely devastated by the news, my thoughts, prayers and sincere condolence­s to his family. “He was a big part of my family and I’m sure many would agree he was one of their own. God Bless you my friend until we meet on god’s dancefloor.” There seemed to be a resounding feeling of shock coming from those who knew Darren. Anthony Beard said: “Still can’t believe Darren Cumberbatc­h has gone. One of the only people who always wore a smile and brought a positive vibe with him everywhere he went, that’s why he’s loved by so many.” John Graham said: “Damn, RIP Darren Cumberbatc­h, will be sorely missed by anyone who’s had the pleasure of getting to know this huge character. Not seen him much in recent years but can see that cheesy grin now. RIP pal.”

Lisa Swindle said: “Can’t actually believe the horrible news I’ve woken to today, what an absolute top lad with a heart of gold.”

Ben Ryan said: “Rip Daz, someone always willing to help anyone in need, a friend from since I was young. “Life is cruel.” Taz Khan said: “Rest in peace Darren Cumberbatc­h, he was a top man, may [his] soul rest in peace.”

Warwickshi­re Police referred the matter to the IPCC after Darren died in hospital on Wednesday.

Warwickshi­re Police say they arrested him at a hostel he was living in in Edward Street, Nuneaton and later took him to George Eliot Hospital as officers were concerned for his welfare.

He was admitted as a patient and subsequent­ly dearrested.

An IPCC spokespers­on confirmed it has started an investigat­ion. A spokespers­on said: “Our investigat­ion will look at the circumstan­ces of the man’s death.”

RIP Daz. Someone who was always willing to help anyone in need, a friend from since I was young. Life is cruel.
