FACE cream, hard work and knitting are just some of the secrets three ladies living in the same Nuneaton care home have shared as they will all reach the age of 100 within weeks of each other.

Nora Harrad, Gladys Townsend and Cecily Day of Caldwell Grange Care Home will celebrate their centenary birthdays within just four weeks of each other across July and August.

Staff at the centre are delighted the ladies have reached their milestone ages and have planned to hold a special party on Sunday at the home to celebrate them reaching triple figures.

Sam Chater, registered manager at the home, said: “This is a real happy time for everyone at the home as we celebrate all their birthdays together.

“When I first joined caring, we would get quite a lot of these types of birthdays, but now they are getting fewer and fewer.

“Each of the ladies has their own personality and character and they are always telling us such fascinating stories about their lives, we just love to listen to them.

“To get to such a ripe old age is a great achievement and we cannot wait to celebrate their special days over the next few weeks.”

Cecily is the oldest of the three as her 100th birthday is today.

Nora has lived in and around Nuneaton all her life and has four children, seven grandchildren, 11 eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She will celebrate her birthday on Sunday.

Her earliest memory is of scrubbing the floors outside her family home as she grew up in the late 1910s and early 1920s.

Cynthia Roberts, Nora’s daughter, said: “Our mum has worked all of her life and I think that has what has kept her so strong.

“She has always looked after us when we were younger, always made sure we were happy.

“She has a cheeky personality and she has a laugh with all the staff here. We are so proud of her reaching this milestone and she still keeps us all in check!”

Nora completed a number of different jobs during her life mainly working in factories including Listers in Attleborough, Courtaulds in Marborough Road and Fludes in Hinckley.

The youngest of the three is Gladys Townsend. She has four children, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and will celebrate her 100th birthday on Tuesday, August 22.

She said: “I can’t believe that I will be 100 next month, I certainly don’t feel it!”
