FOXES CLOSE IN ON THOMAS

- By JAMES RODGER

COVENTRY City forward George Thomas (pictured) is close to joining Leicester City, according to reports.

The Foxes reportedly made a formal offer of roughly £300,000 on July 1.

And the King Power Stadium club are expected to go back this week, after returning from Hong Kong, with a second offer closer to the £500,000 that the Sky Blues are hoping for.

Top-flight sides Swansea, Newcastle, Brighton and Burnley, as well as Championship clubs Leeds and QPR, are also interested.

The Sky Blues Academy graduate, who is currently out of contract, shot his name into the headlines back in April after firing City into a 2-0 lead during the Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley.

Thomas is out of contract at the club and City would be due compensation from any deal.

Earlier this month, the Wales youth international was reported as being ‘on the verge’ of signing for the Swans. But chairman Huw Jenkins reportedly baulked at paying £500,000 for an unproven youngster.

Last week, Mark Robins urged the home-grown striker to continue his development in City’s first team.

Asked if there is any news on Thomas, Robins said: “Nothing, it’s frustrating.

“He knows how I feel. I know he wants to have a look around to make sure that he’s not missing out on something.

“It’s difficult for him and it’s difficult for us because as we get closer to the season we will be needing to know and he will be needing to know where his future lies.

“He’s been torn all the way through and I know that he’s very undecided.

“It really is affecting him, that’s for sure, and it needs deciding one way or the other as soon as possible.”
