MARCH IN TOWN AFTER DEATH OF ARRESTED MAN
FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO STAGE PROTEST AND RALLY
A DEMONSTRATION is being held in Nuneaton tomorrow following the death of a man from Coventry after he was arrested in the town.
Stagecoach Midlands is warning that the protest may cause disruption to its services when friends and family of Darren Cumberbatch march through the town.
The march will demand answers following the 32-year-old’s death. He died at the George Eliot hospital nine days after being arrested at the bail hostel he was staying at in Nuneaton.
The group are marching from Macintyre House to Nuneaton Police Station where they will hold a rally.
Darren’s sister Carla has said: “I want the truth, I want to know what happened to my brother. I want answers and the truth.”
The Police watchdog, the IPCC has launched an investigation into the circumstances of Darren’s death.
The Justice4Daz campaign has been set up in the wake of his death.
They are urging the IPCC to carry out a robust investigation and are calling for witnesses to come forward and speak to the watchdog.
A post-mortem examination of Darren’s body was due to be carried out on Tuesday but the IPCC is yet to release details of the results.
A public meeting by the Justic4Daz campaign was held at the West Indian Community Centre in Spon Street, Coventry, earlier this week.
Campaigners will be meeting at Nuneaton Train Station at 1pm and walking to McIntyre House in Edward Street, Nuneaton at 1.30pm,
before starting their march to Nuneaton Police Station in the Justice Centre in Vicarage Street at 2pm, where they will hold the rally. The demonstration will not go through the town centre; instead it will start at Nuneaton Railway Station, then go along the Roanne Ringway onto Queens Road then right into Edward Street. There will be a quiet vigil outside Macintyre House before the demonstration then goes from Edward Street to Riversley Road, along Coton Road and into Vicarage Street towards the police station.
I want the truth, I want to know what happened to my brother. I want answers. Carla
