DOG DUMPED IN BOX AT THE SIDE OF ROAD FINDS NEW HOME JUST HOURS AFTER APPEAL

- By LAURA HARTLEY News reporter laura.hartley@trinitymirror.com

PEANUT the puppy could possibly be the luckiest pooch in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Following an appeal by Dogs Trust Kenilworth to find her a new home after she was abandoned at the roadside in a box, they were overwhelmed with calls.

In just the first few hours of the appeal being launched, the charity received around 120 calls.

Peanut, as she has been named, was fortunately uninjured when she was discovered after someone heard her crying on the A446 in Berkswell. The terrier cross was trapped in a box covered with a piece of wood to stop her from getting out. A spokeswoman said: “We had around 120 calls about Peanut in just a few hours so she is one lucky puppy! “She has found a home and once she has had the necessary vet checks/vaccinations etc she’ll be going to live with her new family in a few days.” Since she was found, Peanut has been enjoying a lot of attention and love from staff at the home after her ordeal.

Emma Healey, deputy rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, said: “We look after hundreds of abandoned and unwanted dogs every year but it still shocks us to think that someone could abandon a puppy like this.

“If someone needs to give up their dog for whatever reason we would always encourage them to come in to the centre to talk this through with our staff.

“By handing them over in this way, we are able to know a little more about the dog’s history, exactly how old they are or what sort of socialisation and training they have had.

“That all helps us to find them the best home.”
