Memories of

Princess Diana

- By KATRINA CHILVER News Reporter katrina.chilver@trinitymirror.com

ASK pretty much anyone in the UK and they’ll have memories of Princess Diana.

Whether it was her admirable dress sense or her charity work, lots of people have a memory to recall.

But if you were lucky enough to meet her in person, you’ll have even more of a story to tell. Over the years Diana made a number of visits to Coventry and Warwickshire, meeting people from across the region.

This year marks 20 years since the death of the people’s princess and here we look back at the times she came to Coventry, Warwick and Atherstone. Coventry

In 1985, Diana made a visit to the Remploy factory in Coventry.

She officially opened the centre and chatted to the workforce.

The factory employed more disabled people than any other company in Britain.

Diana then took a tour round a modern development of alms houses. Atherstone

Princess Di and Prince Charles visited Atherstone in 1985.

They were greeted by crowds at the train station and later by plenty of well wishers in Long Street and Market Square. The Royal couple also visited various schools in the town. Warwick

In July 1986 Princess Diana visited Warwick Castle to open the Victorian Rose Garden.

She took a walk around the garden and met crowds of people excited to catch a glimpse of her.

During that day she also went to Southfields, a group of sheltered homes for the elderly in Leamington Spa.

She wore a pink skirt suit along with a white and pink cap.

She also had lunch at the Judges’ House in Warwick.
