AMERICAN SINGER SONGWRITER COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS CELEBRATES VINTAGE STYLE

- BY MARION MCMULLEN

What are you wearing today?

I’m wearing a vintage 1960s prairie shirt with flare sleeves, blue Levi’s and brown Chelsea boots. Who’s your style icon?

It’s a mix between Janis Joplin and Dolly Parton. What item of clothing do you spend the most on?

I’m a vintage and thrift guru so if I find a one-of-a-kind piece I’d be willing to spend some extra money on it. Otherwise I’m all about the dig for cheap treasures. What is your favourite piece of clothing in your wardrobe?

I have a creamy white paisley jumpsuit from the 70s with sheer arms and flare bottoms. I found it for 10 dollars at a thrift store in Seattle and I have made it my show outfit. What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe?

For my Later... With Jools Holland performance I got a beautiful dress from For Love And Lemons, a company based out of LA. I bought it for about $250. That’s the most I’ve ever spent on an item of clothing, but it was too perfect. What has been your biggest fashion disaster?

Since I wear vintage a lot, clothes tear. Once I was wearing a red vintage pantsuit on stage and the pant seam ripped from top to bottom ... all the way down the leg. Luckily it happened during the last song so no one noticed! Who is your favourite designer? For Love And Lemons really are doing some beautiful work, hence my splurge! What did your mum teach you about fashion? She taught me how to make thrifty look chic.

Courtney Marie Andrews is set to tour the UK following the release of her album Honest Life. Go to courtneymarieandrews.com for details.
