Courts Man found carrying knives attacked detention officer

A MAN who was found in a Coventry street carrying two knives, a pair of scissors and a screwdrive­r then went on to attack a detention officer.

Alan Arthur was found to be carrying the blades in Cressage Road, Walsgrave, and then assaulted the officer all while under a suspended prison sentence.

His actions saw him sent to jail for six months and four weeks after the 44-year-old, of Whitley Village, Whitley, pleaded guilty at Coventry Magistrate­s Court to four counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place, assault and committing an offence while subject to a suspended sentence.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court on Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18, included:

James Fulwell, 26, of Heath Road, Stoke, admitted breaching a restrainin­g order. He was given a new restrainin­g order, fined £250 and ordered to pay £100 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Jakub Piskor, 36, of no fixed address, admitted stealing clothes and alcohol worth £57 from Asda. He was fined £50 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge.

Gemma Craven, 34, of Sandwick Close, Ernesford Grange, was found guilty of driving without insurance. She was banned from driving for a year, fined £600 and ordered to pay £200 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Richard Madzima, 26, of Ridgethorp­e, Willenhall, admitted stealing meat from Lidl and committing an offence while subject to a conditiona­l discharge. He was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year (four weeks for new offence and eight weeks for original offences of theft and failing to answer bail) and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Daniel McCafferty, 41, of Chauntry Place, city centre, admitted possession of cannabis, possession of diazepam and using threatenin­g or abusive behaviour. He was given a 12-month conditiona­l discharge, fined £50 and ordered to pay £20 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Sammie-Joe Henneberry, 28, of Westminste­r Road, Spon End, admitted failing to attend a drugs assessment, failing to answer bail and failing to attend a follow-up assessment. She was fined £110 and ordered to pay £40 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Olivian Ruset, 27, of Station Street East, Foleshill, admitted drinkdrivi­ng in Hood Street (breath 77, limit 35), driving a vehicle without

Kieran Henry, 25, of Whitley Village, Whitley, admitted stealing alcohol worth £172 from Tesco, stealing chocolate worth £39 from Poundland and failing to answer bail. He was given a community order including a drug rehabilita­tion requiremen­t, fined £50 and ordered to pay £100 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Paul Nelson, 51, of Sadler Gardens, Bedworth, admitted two counts of assault by beating. He was fined £150 and ordered to pay £300 compensati­on, £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
