Boss admits Boro hit by by absences

- By CHRIS PHILPOTTS covsport@trinitymirror.com Tommy Wright

TOMMY Wright is refusing to blame missing players for the frustrating start Nuneaton have had this season – but he admitted that they have not helped either.

The Boro made it three defeats out of four to start the Vanarama National League North after a 1-0 loss away at Brackley on Tuesday night.

It was a game in which Nuneaton were once again without the services of Tom Elliott, Kelvin Langmead, Alex Henshall and Greg Mills.

Wright said: “I am not saying it is because they are out that we lost, but it has hindered us in terms of their absence.

“Alex and Greg are two players who make things happen for example. They are our width out there. I have not once moaned about injuries and I never will, but I do think when we get them back we will be able to add something different to our game and that can only help us.

“We have got good players out there still and I am more than happy with the squad that I have got and the players we have brought in. But we are missing that something different and when these guys are back and firing we will have that.”

In their absence Nuneaton went down to a secondsuccessive 1-0 defeat, a third game in which the Boro had failed to score this season.

Despite the defeat Wright was adamant that there was no much between the two teams on the night.

He said: “There was not much in it. One goal was always going to be enough to win it and unfortunately for us, it was Brackley who got it, although it was a great strike from the lad.

“That is how it is going at the moment, though, they get a worldie and there is nothing we can do about it.

“We’re getting punished at the moment but I didn’t feel that we created enough if I am being honest. The lads are feeling sorry for themselves, but we have to be able to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and be ready to go again at York on Saturday.”
