TRIBUTES have been paid to a Coventry man who died after being swept out to sea in Cornwall.

The victim, named locally as Oneil ‘Kenny’ Din, died after getting in to difficulty while swimming at Newquay on Tuesday – it is understood he and two friends were caught in a rip tide. The coastguard helicopter and RNLI lifeboats were sent to their aid, but sadly the 27-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.

The other two swimmers, aged 17 and 18, remain at Treliske Hospital in Cornwall but are not believed to be seriously injured.

Tributes to the popular young man have been paid of Facebook.

A post from the Handog Natin Charity said: “Our deepest sympathy to the Din family. Kenny was well-known to the Filipino community of Coventry and was an inspiration to a number of our youths.

“We are all saddened with his untimely demise. He will be remembered as a loving son and brother to us all.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the whole Din family.”

The Great Commission Ministry church’s Coventry branch also posted on social media.

A post on Facebook read: “We mourn for the untimely demise of our dear brother Kenny Oneil Din who has now gone home to our Father in heaven... you will always be in our hearts whom you have touched.

“We thank you for your music and worship every Sunday service. We thank you for sharing God’s words in your preachings.

“We thank you for your encouraging words. We thank you for your great dedication in serving God and spreading His words.

“We thank you for your smiles and laughter. We thank you for your friendship and just by being there. Thank you for your life.

“So long, farewell our dear brother, you are at home now with the Lord.”

Another heartfelt message came from Maria Rayco who said: “I’m so lost for words... our deepest condolence and prayers to you and your family. “He’s a great boy with an amazing talent and he’ll surely be missed.” Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious and they will be carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner. The other two swimmers, aged 17 and 18, remain at Treliske Hospital but are not believed to be seriously injured. One eyewitness who saw the rescue was Leigh Hallam who told the BBC he saw a total of seven men swimming when they started getting dragged out to sea. He said: “Four of them scrambled on the rocks but three of them kept getting dragged out. “I was shouting to some paddle-boarders and surfers to grab them and I was shouting to the three guys to swim sideways out of the rip but they were unresponsive.”

I’m so lost for words... our deepest condolence and prayers to you and your family, he’ll surely be missed Maria Rayco
